Vice President • Montcalm County Quality Deer Cooperative
Hello everyone, A little story about myself. I was born and raised in Montcalm County. I started deer hunting back in 1999, and it was a passion even before that. Fast forward to 2001, when my grandpa said, “There’s a QDM banquet at the golf course — do you want to go?” Of course, I said yes. That’s where my roots started for an overall healthy deer herd. In 2012, we had EHD hit, and that really opened my eyes to the deer herd. I noticed the deer numbers were slowly going back up, but not to where they once were. In 2015, I was invited to the Bacon Creek Co-Op, with Jeff as the leader. At first, I thought, “What’s this all about?” I was shocked by how many neighbors were involved and putting time into the woods and fields. It was awesome to see. That same year, I started the Fish Creek Co-Op. We have around 2,000 acres involved. I started this co-op for an overall healthy deer herd. After hours and hours in the woods doing habitat work, I found myself enjoying that more than taking a deer. Don’t get me wrong — it’s nice to see big bucks running around — but I enjoy taking someone else out hunting and watching them take a deer even more.
